Carol Koran

Nishimachi International School
Director of Learning
Carol has been a teacher, Principal, University lecturer, student teacher mentor, and explorer of all things linked to education for over 30 years.  Originally from Canada, she now resides in Tokyo as Director of Learning at Nishimachi International School.  Throughout her many years as an educator, she has delved into visual literacy, student engagement,  and the art of instructional intelligence.  However, it is the fascinating links between brain research and learning that continue to arouse her curiosity and impose on her communication with others.  She has even managed to work in brain research with her 2nd most favorite activity - hiking!  She welcomes any opportunity to dialogue with other educators about teaching, learning, and why asking a Middle School student, "What were you thinking?" is a wasted question.
